King Research has released information on a Windows Vista related survey that was performed on how IT professionals felt about the operating system. The results concluded the 90% of people in the IT field did not want anything to do with the operating due to concerns with security and stability. Cost was also a factor but I have to say that if the security and stability aspects were fine, then the price might not look so bad.
To be honest, I’d have to say that I am one of the 90% that doesn’t care for Vista. I’ve used it a little bit and got really tired of it being slow and a little “too secure”. I know that the phrase “too secure” sounds odd, but if you’ve used Vista, then you likely know what I’m talking about.

Japan always manages to come out with some of the most unique and obscure devices. And while most of them just don’t make much sense at all, I think this one actually servers a purpose. The vending machine with face recognition capabilities will be used as an aid for preventing under age people from purchasing cigarettes. While it may actually be helpful in preventing the occasional happening, there may still be people out there that will be of age and may buy cigarettes for the youngsters. I’m not discrediting the efforts of Japan, but I think it’s going to take a lot more to cut down on cigarette sales to the younger generation.

Being a fan of all things science and computers, as well as a fan of research that helps fight things such as cancer, I’m glad to see that Canada is taking some serious action in the fight to cure / prevent cancer. A research team at the Ontario Cancer Institute have decided to utilize the power of IBM’s World Community Grid to analyze research data that resulted from experiments. Analysis will be performed on proteins that were collected from the tests. It was estimated the research would have taken nearly 162 years to completed if the analysis were done on standard computers. But with the combine power of the PCs on the IBM World Community Grid, they have estimated that the completion time will be about two years.

Many of you may not know of the company CI Host, but they’re a data center located in Chicago, IL. And sometimes in life, some funny things happen. Then other times in life funny things happen four times. The data center that houses information for people and their associated websites and such, has been broken into four times within the past two years. After the robbers broke into the place, they not only stole some equipment but decided that they needed to also tazer and beat the guard in the data center. Maybe they’ll wise up and move instead of staying in “the hood.”

In a world where cosmetic surgery is a common thing, people are often taking part in procedures that may not even be required. These elective liposuction surgery procedures are taking place primarily because companies are playing off of the insecurities of their patients and conning them into getting things done that probably don’t need to be.
One company that’s trying to turn this practice around is MYA. By focusing on the patient’s needs and what procedures the patient wants to have done, they can cut down on unnecessary procedures to better assist the patient. In addition to this, it will also provide them with more time to work with additional patients. So if you’re thinking about having cosmetic surgery done, then you should consult with MYA on how to procede.

So I held out for about a week before buckling and actually buying Guitar Hero III. Everybody knew that it was coming at some point. I kind of surprised myself as I generally pick up a copy immediately after it comes out. At any rate, I’ve played it and have to say it’s looking pretty awesome thus far. I like the concept of having to fight a boss. While a boss is a common concept with with video games, a boss in Guitar Hero doesn’t immediately come to mind in terms of gameplay. But the way that the company designed it was probably the best, if not the only, way to implement a boss concept.

For the K-Mart shoppers of the world that were in the market for a new blu-ray player won’t be able to find one in their local K-Mart. Because of the pricing that generally comes with blu-ray players, K-Mart has decided to stop selling the devices. Instead, K-Mart is going to focus their efforts towards HD-DVD players which is slowly becoming the more dominant format. I for one don’t really care about the whole HD-DVD and blu-ray war, but if I had to choose one, it would most definitely be HD-DVD. So K-Mart, good decision. You chose wisely.
